After introducing you to the cool Reykjavik, now I am writing about the classic one-thing-everyone-does-when-in-Iceland day tour. The Golden Circle tour!
If you google what to do in/around Reykjavik, one of the first results you will get is: Golden circle day tour. Golden circle is a very famous 300 km loop from Reykjavik to the center of Iceland and back. It has many touristic attractions along the way. I will tell you little about some of them, but with some beautiful pictures to prove: Why is it that popular? Why is it a-must-to-do?

There are different ways you can do this. We opted for a guided mini-bus tour from Gateway to Iceland. Reasons: 1. It was a mini bus. So, guided group but still not too crowded. 2. secret lagoon hot spring at the end of the marvelous day 🙂
The Thingvellir National park
Why? Apart from being beautiful (because what place is not beautiful in Iceland?), it has special value in Icelandic history. Icelandic general assembly was conducted there (from 930 to 1798) and they took major decisions (like converting to Christianity) there. It is also home to the viewpoint of the American side of mid-Atlantic tectonic plates.
Strokkur and Geysir
One of Iceland’s most famous Geyser erupting about every 8-10 minutes 15 – 20 m high, sometimes up to 40 m high. There are also some other small geysers in the vicinity.
The Gullfoss waterfall
One of the most majestic and beautiful waterfalls I have ever seen. No words!
One of the hot springs we went to have a dip in. Wonderful feeling. Snow and mountains around and you are just chilling in open air hot water. Amazing!
Although the tour was officially over, amazement was not! The whole landscape was beautiful (Check out my article about Reykjavik or the South Iceland ice cave tour, if you want to see more pictures).
Our guide was really nice. Can you believe he narrated stories and historical facts whole drive there? NON-STOP! We learned so much about cultural and historical aspects of Iceland which we wouldn’t have known otherwise. We really liked the tour, especially when we ended it with the hot bath! Cheers to the hot golden circle tour! Hopefully I was able to convince you how amazing Iceland is!
